Building and unbuilding a SEZ / GSAPP Spring Studio

05-2018
Unbuilding and repurposing an SEZ, employs a scenario planning methodology which allows for speculations that help asses what might be instead of fixating in problem-solving for the city of Aqaba, Jordan, one of the most water-stressed cities in the World. The project is a critique of the solutions developed to confront the water scarcity predicted to hit Jordan in the upcoming years.Based on economic and ecological triggers, the proposal presents a future for the city of Aqaba, where the residents move from livelihoods based on real estate value extraction to remediation strategies on the site of luxury condos.
